Full Moon Gatherings
held by Sophia Unfolds

JOIN ZOOM
NOTE: due to illness, this event (March 27) has been canceled. See you full moon in April!
These gatherings are deeply sweet, meaningful and connecting. We've also been having a lot of fun learning about the different moons and their meanings and energies at these full moon gatherings. But mostly, we come together to Celebrate Our Fullness as human beings, mark the rhythms of time in community, to support one another on this great journey, and have a lot of creative fun!

We follow this general format:
Introduction to the event and Sophia Unfolds
Introductions and ice breakers with one another
Information and discussion about the particular energies around the current full moon
Full moon ritual
Special Activity (experiential or co-creative in nature)
Food and socializing

(Although this container has at its base the rhythm of the moon, the energy of the Divine Feminine, and the general format of women’s circles, all genders are welcome. There is no age requirement, but please be mature and developed enough to hold sacred space for others.)

Love offerings accepted and for now go to Sophia Unfolds to support continuation of these full moon gatherings.

Light snacks and beverages are provided. You are welcome to bring snacks to share if you desire.

We are about building community. So if you have flyers for events or services you would like to promote to this community, please bring them along. We set up a special table for networking.

Visit Sophia Unfolds for the most up-to-date information regarding the full moon gatherings.

Sunday October 8th - 6:30 - 8:30pm

This full moon is in the sign of Aries. Due to some scheduling coordination, our celebration is lagging slightly behind the date for this moon which reaches its fullness on Oct 5th.

From the Old Farmer's Almanac: "The FULL HUNTERS MOON, this is the first Full Moon following September’s Harvest Moon. It rises just after sunset and sets around sunrise, so this is the only night in the month when the Moon is in the sky all night long. Some Native American tribes referred to October’s Moon as the Full Hunter’s Moon as it was the time to go hunting in preparation for winter. This full Moon is also called the 'Travel Moon' and the 'Dying Grass Moon.'"

This full moon in Pisces, where that lunar/water connection is strong. What tides are pulling and pushing on you?

From the Old Farmer's Almanac: "Full Corn Moon or Full Harvest Moon - This full moon’s name is attributed to Native Americans because it marked when corn was supposed to be harvested. Most often, the September full moon is actually the Harvest Moon, which is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in September, but in some years it occurs in October."

August 2017 "Celebrating Our Fullness" at Evenstar's Chalice

Picture
This full moon in Aquarius is special because we have a partial lunar eclipse on the same day! Powerful stuff!

From the Old Farmer's Almanac: "Some Native American tribes called the August Moon the “Sturgeon Moon” because they knew that the sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this Full Moon. They also called August’s Moon the “Full Green Corn Moon. Different tribes had different Moon name preferences. Other examples for August are: “Wheat Cut Moon” (San Ildefonso, and San Juan), “Moon When All Things Ripen” (Dakotah Sioux), and ”Blueberry Moon” (Ojibwe)."

For our special activity:

Percussionist, Spirit traveler, shamanic drumming practitioner 'juanZo', aka John Smolinski, will facilitate a drum journey on the Full Sturgeon Moon at Evenstar's Chalice, 6:30 PM, August 7th, 2017. Demonstrating and leading a shamanic pattern found in an ancestral site in Joshua Tree National Park called the Shaman's Cave by those who know the closely guarded location, then segueing into a traditional shamanic journey monotone beat, we will bridge the gray zone between ordinary and non-ordinary consciousness and Spirit willing, open a channel to the higher realms in which participants can connect with their ancestors and spirit guides, followed by some moments of sitting in quiet then sharing of experiences by those who are open to it.
Bring HOOP drums and/or rattles if you have them. John will have some rattles available for use.
